Dear Tcfm,

If you were able to join us for the Discerning Your Role in the 2024 Elections call last week, thank you! Many of us are feeling a range of emotions about the elections: from anxiety to discouragement to hope. Yet, we also talked about how democracy is resilient. There is real power in people speaking up and taking action. I appreciated being in community as we held space for each other and discerned together how we can strengthen our democracy.

I wanted to share some ideas and resources that we promised. The recording of the call is available here and you can always visit FCNL’s election resource page for ideas of ways to engage.

Here are some ideas for voter registration and get-out-the-vote events which have been successful in the past:

  • A "vote goat" event: a petting zoo of rented goats with voter registration

  • A 12-hour "vote-a-thon" to register voters

  • Watch parties for events or movies where you also register voters

  • On Election Day, coordinate rides or visit the polls together to help encourage people to vote

  • Throw a party to watch the election returns to be in community with folks

For those interested in voter protection work (leading up to, on, and after election day), Faiths United to Save Democracy has resources and trainings, including a training coming up next week on October 10.

Here are some other resources and toolkits from faith-based organizations which I’ve found helpful:

Faith in Elections Toolkit

Our Faith Our Vote Toolkit

NETWORK Lobby Toolkit

If you want to work with a specific candidate, here are some specific partisan resources which might help connect you with volunteer opportunities:

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign

President Donald Trump’s campaign

Democratic National Committee

Republican National Committee

You can also reach out to a third party in your state or get in touch with a local candidate you support tovolunteer with their campaign!

However you decide to engage in the upcoming elections, I know our democracy is stronger because of the actions you take and the prayers you make. Thank you for your dedication and discernment.

If you do any of these things, please respond to this email and let us know! I’m encouraged by your perseverance in the face of these difficult times.

Amelia Kegan

In hope,
